this week, i found an article describing the impact of poverty on children's brain activity . in an experiment, a team of psychologists used a fNIRS to evaluate the brain activity of 42 children in rural india. they tested their visual working memory, and were shocked with the results. it was found that the children living in poverty showed weaker brain activity and poorer distractor suppression in the left front cortex of the brain. this is due to a variety of factors, such as parental income, education, caste, and religion.  it saddened me to find out that poverty not only took a toll on individuals physically, but mentally as well. this made me appreciate all of the blessings i have and the environment i am raised in. the fact that many families in rural areas are trapped in a constant cycle of destitution is the harsh reality the world has to witness. however, the study does shed light on brain plasticity, saying that there is hope for children to break the mindset assoc...
